Dollard des Ormeaux

History

The commander of the garrison of the fort of Ville-Marie since 1658, Sieur Adam Dollard des Ormeaux (1635-1660) faced the Iroquois in the battle of Long-Sault in the spring of 1660, accompanied by forty Hurons, four Algonquins and sixteen French. He died with seventeen of his companions. This battle temporarily deflected the Iroquois from the colony of Ville-Marie, now Montreal.
