Saint Joseph's Oratory

Protection action

In 2004, the Oratory was designated a national historic site by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. In October of that same year, the church was consecrated by Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte during the 100-year anniversary celebrations for the basilica. Since then, the Oratory and its enchanting site have been the subject of major renovations aimed at facilitating access for mobility-impaired visitors and pilgrims, improving pedestrian safety, visitor facilities, and traffic flow, and enhancing attractions such as the museum, the bells, and the Sainte-Croix library. As for the site itself, some paved areas have been replaced by landscaping with trees, flowers, shrubs, and hedges.
