Saint-George's Anglican church

Achitecture

Built in the English Gothic style, St. George's Anglican Church is reminiscent of the medieval period with its roof of multi-coloured slate, its stone tower, and its delicately sculpted sandstone exterior. Built in the shape of a cross with a column-free chancel and nave, it boasts a magnificent timber frame and double hammer-beam roof. Some of the most remarkable interior elements include the altar and altar piece added in1930, the original pulpit, the altar's immense gold-plated brass cross, the Casavant organ, the chapel tapestries, and the wood carvings in the chancel. The stained glass windows depict Biblical scenes and pay tribute to donors such as William Molson.

Major architects contributed to the building of the church including Alexander F. Dunlop, designer of the clock tower, and Kenneth Rea.
