Ernest Cormier
1885 - 1980

Engineer and Architect. Engineering studies at the École Polytechnique de Montréal. Graduated in architecture from École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Studied classical art in Rome. Returned in Montréal in 1918. In 1924, Ernest Cormier was made chief architect for the new Université de Montréal. Construction started in1928, and Cormier worked there until 1961. The Université de Montréal remains the principal work of this architect, who endowed the city with an innovative conception of architecture.
