Edward VII

Well known to Montrealers since his first visit in 1859, Edward VII was a popular king because of his numerous interventions in the cause of peace. A francophile with a keen interest in foreign policy, he travelled to Paris frequently throughout his reign, succeeding in positively influencing French public opinion at a time when international relations were difficult. In 1903, he initiated the Entente Cordiale, which sealed the alliance between the former enemies, France and England.
