Les leçons singulières, volet 1

History

Place Roy was named in honour of Marguerite Roy (1787-1857), wife of notary Jean-Marie Cadieux. His estate was subdivided and streets and parks named after family members.

Michel Goulet's artwork provoked strong reactions from district residents, particularly because it was impossible to sit on the chair sculptures. Matters went far, including several acts of vandalism. As a result, the City removed all the chairs from the Place Roy sculptural installation in 1996, only replacing them two years later.
